How did you get your first job at Goodwood and what did it involve?
My first job at Goodwood was as a casual waiter while I was studying. A friend convinced me to help out at the Festival of Speed ball and I’ve never looked back.
Tell us about how you worked your way up to your current role?
From a waiter I went on to become a wine waiter and then a Butler. I took a sabbatical abroad to broaden my skills and returned to Goodwood to help with the opening of Hound Lodge and was offered the position of Assistant Operations Manager. After a few years in this role, I became the Operations Manager for The Kennels and Hound Lodge.
My alarm goes off at…
Usually 7am but could be any time between 5:30am-11am. My days can be so different, depending on what’s going on.
I’m responsible for …
The day-to-day operation of The Kennels and Hound Lodge acting as a number two for the General Manager.
I got my job…
In June 2018 but have been working for the estate for about 8 years.
My typical day involves…
Every day is different. Anything from hosting guests to managing housekeepers; coming up with new revenue opportunities to being on the bar and everything in-between!
My most memorable work moment…
Seeing Hound Lodge in operation for the first time and welcoming the very first guests.
The worst part of my job…
When good people leave. We have such a strong team ethos and encourage everyone to their full potential but there comes a time when it’s the right time for them to move on.
The best part of my job…
I drive from the beach to the countryside every day. What’s not to love?
After work…
Surfing, mountain biking and just being outdoors.
The best thing about working at Goodwood…
Being able to deliver something unique and incredible. In my job I’m spoilt with opportunities to create a truly ‘Goodwood’ experience.
What have you discovered (about working at Goodwood) that you never would have known before?
The variety of positions on the estate and the number of things you can do at Goodwood. In terms of delivering something special this has to be the best place in the world.
Who (at Goodwood) would you most like to swap places with for a day and why?
Someone at the farm. I’m so passionate about food I’d love to learn more about how we raise our animals and the journey of our produce before it arrives in our kitchens.
