The Classic Aston Martin DB5
It’s difficult to imagine an Aston Martin more iconic than the DB5, given its long-standing presence as the wheels of choice for Britain’s most prolific fictitious spy.
The DB5 made its first appearance as 007’s car in the 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger, subsequently starring in eight films across three different representations of Bond (Connery, Brosnan and Craig), including the most recent release, No Time To Die.
Obviously, the big screen DB5 is all about its gadgets – something Aston Martin itself has paid homage to with a special release of Goldfinger continuation collectable cars built from the ground up. But in real life, the model stands out as one of the best grand tourers ever made by Aston Martin.
Designed by Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera, the DB5’s gentle evolution in styling over the DB4 was combined with numerous changes under the magnesium-alloy bodywork. The all-aluminium straight-six engine was enlarged to 4.0-litres, developing 282PS (207kW) in standard versions of the DB5, and up to 325PS (239kW) in high-performance Vantage versions.
