The Platinum Jubilee long weekend is well underway, and we’re excited to announce a competition to win two tickets to the Eroica Britannia festival!
If you’re in London for the Platinum Pageant this Sunday, whether as a rider in the parade or as a spectator, we’d love to see your pictures of this historic occasion. If they show any of the classic bicycles taking part in the parade on Sunday, so much the better!
Several Eroica riders will be taking part in the Platinum Jubilee Pageant this Sunday. Look out for Brian Hobbs, riding his 1950s Claud Butler. He’ll be wearing a yellow and black cycling top, and his Eroica Britannia cap and socks!
Geoff Pownall will be riding his Bianchi Super Turismo. “It’s special since it has the lovely patina of a well used bike,” he says. Geoff has owned the bike for six months, and will be riding it at Goodwood in August.
They’ll be cycling alongside Alan Thomas on his 1955 Holdsworth Monsoon Trike. “I bought the trike secondhand from a guy in my local cycling club in 1966,” Alan says. “Everyone thinks riding a trike is easy and says ‘at least you can’t fall off’. Actually nothing is further from the truth. To ride a trike fast around corners having to lean out and redistribute weight to prevent rolling completely over and fighting sudden camber changes is a skill that takes years to master.”
We’ve already written about Anthony Wilkin, who will be riding his beautiful 1952 Hetchin. You should also keep an eye out from Tim and Dan from Goodwood, who will be flying the flag for Eroica Britannia’s new home.
If you’d like to take part in the competition, either post your pictures to Instagram or Facebook and tag #eroicabritannia, or send them by email to firstname.lastname@example.org. The pictures must be taken over the Jubilee weekend, and must be received by the midnight on Monday 7 June. Please do not submit images for the competition unless you are happy for us to share them on our website and on social media. The prize is two festival tickets (non-riding) for the whole weekend of 6-7 August.
Good luck to everyone riding at the Pageant and all our competition entrants! And wherever you are, enjoy the celebrations this Jubilee weekend!
