Eroica Britannia has never had its own racing track before. That’s going to change this August when Eroica Britannia riders will enjoy traffic-free cycling around Goodwood’s famous 2.4-mile Motor Circuit.
We’re planning to make good use of our new playground. There’s a packed programme of rides and races to enjoy on the Saturday. Whether you prefer a leisurely cycle with the family or the excitement of competing, there are plenty of opportunities to get your cycling fix before the Classic Rides on Sunday.
Places for the on-track activity will be limited but entry is free to anyone taking part in Sunday’s Classic Rides. Booking will open soon, so watch this space!
Riders will wake up to free time on the circuit from 9am on the Saturday. Then the first competitive race of the day follows at 10am.
Path Racer Cup
For those who don’t know, the original Path Racers were made in the Victorian and Edwardian eras, designed for riding on road and track. These dual-purpose racing machines were the superbikes of their day.
Our race will be open to both original machines and their modern successors, such as the Pashley Guv’nor and Pashley Speed Five.
Folding Bike Race
Folding bikes have long been part of Eroica Britannia, especially that most British of folding bicycles, the Brompton. Whether you own a Brompton, or a classic folder like the Bickerton, Dawes Kingpin or Raleigh Stowaway, this race is for you.
Eroica Classic Race
Pump up the tyres and check the brakes of your pre-1987 steel bicycle. This is your opportunity to prove just how fast you and your classic bike can be. You’ll have two laps of the circuit to channel your inner Giuseppe Saronni or Mandy Jones, racing in the tyre tracks of the 1982 world champions.
There’s nothing quite like the simple purity of riding a single-speed bike. This race is open to any pre-1987 single-speed or fixed-wheel bike, and contemporary single speeds with a retro aesthetic from the likes of Quella Bicycles.
Team Pursuit Race
You’ll need your friends for this one. Men and women of all ages are eligible, so long as the whole team is willing to give everything for the glory of becoming Eroica Britannia Team Pursuit champions.
Not everyone will want a flat-out blast the day before a challenging ride through the Sussex South Downs. If you’d prefer a gentle spin with your children, the Family Ride is for you. With its perfectly smooth surface and no traffic other than your fellow cyclists, the Goodwood Motor Circuit is the ideal place to get your kids involved and inspire the next generation of Eroici.
The on-circuit activities conclude with the Twilight Ride as the sun sets low in the sky, a relaxed and peaceful end to an exciting first day at Goodwood.
Winners of the races can expect a prize and ceremony to crown them as a champion, though nothing will top the prestige of telling your friends and family you were a part of a special schedule of races at the world-renowned Goodwood Motor Circuit.
