Penny Farthing Polo comes to Eroica Britannia
&width=1600)
You see some unusual sights at Eroica Britannia. This summer, you won’t find anything quirkier or more intriguing than Penny Farthing Polo.
Polo is one of the oldest sports in the world, dating back to 600BC. The Penny Farthing (or ‘Ordinary’) is a relative newcomer, becoming popular in the 1870s and 1880s. The heyday of the Penny Farthing was short-lived as the development of chain-driven bicycles with pneumatic tyres made it obsolete, but it still holds a peculiar fascination for keen cyclists and the general public alike.
On the Saturday, festival-goers will be able to watch an English team taking one representing the rest of the world. Better still, you’ll be able to take part yourself under the expert guidance of the Penny Farthing Club! So, who wants to bully off for a two-wheeled chukka?
It’s sure to be one of the highlights of this year’s Great British Adventure!
