5 Ways to Stay Cool in the Heat
- Deep breathing – Being able to control your body’s breathing takes away any frantic movements that you may experience through inconsistent breaths. Many yoga practitioners offer a cooling breathing technique, where you roll your tongue and breathe slowly through the mouth to help lower body heat and ease stress.
- Avoid big meals - Eating a lot in one go will only make you feel hotter, as digestion uses a lot of energy and generates body heat. If you want to stay cool, eat small amounts of cold food throughout the day, instead of stockpiling your body’s work after one big meal.
- Close your curtains – Sometimes our bodies find it very difficult to adjust in non-air-conditioned spaces. Whilst a sunny scene is much more picturesque than any blinds or curtains, keeping your curtains closed during the day will shade your rooms and prevent the sun from getting in.
- Drink plenty of water – Ensuring your body stays hydrated is one of the most important tasks during any level of heatwave. It can reduce the risk of headaches and fatigue, whilst ensuring that you brain continues to function during the working day!
- Wear loose clothing – There is nothing worse than the feeling of being hot and uncomfortable in the clothes that you’re wearing. When it’s especially warm, try to opt for loose clothing and items that are lighter in colour. Anything dark will just absorb the sun!
