Beat the Fitness Myths
1. A protein bar can replace a meal - Whilst protein bars can be great as a mid-morning snack or post-workout treat, the bars that you can buy from the supermarket are actually highly processed. High processed food requires fewer calories to digest, meaning that the benefit of eating the protein is actually diminished.
2. Carbs are only in bread and noodles - Believe it or not, there are many people that miss the carbohydrates that are commonly found in other foods, other than just bread and noodles. You can also find carbs in grains, starchy foods, fruit, vegetables, dairy, nuts and seeds.
3. You can’t gain muscle after 40 - There is no denying that age does often bring wear and tear to the body, but you are still able to build muscle after you hit the big 40. Despite hormonal deficienices, your body still has the capability to build the strength, you should just be more wary of your limits.
4. The more you sweat the more fat you lose - Most of the time sweat has nothing to do with the intensity of your workout. Your body sweats when it needs to get rid of heat. Fat is oxidised inside your body and unfortunately will not vaporise as a result of you sweating.
5. Yoga burns the most calories - Unless you are taking part in 'hot yoga', the actually yoga exercises do not much many calories. This is mainly because the moves do not require much oxygen. Yoga also stimulates muscle growth in a different way than weight training does.
