5 Things You Should Know About Detox Teas
Whilst these teas are largely popular amongst those trying to achieve weight loss, there are elements to this craze that people are not aware of.
- Diet and exercise are still essential – Drinking a tea designed for detoxing is only going to be beneficial when partnered with a balanced diet and sufficient exercise. Essentially the tea is just a catalyst to your weight loss, rather than the entire answer.
- Water weight vs. Fat – Teas that are combined with caffeine can trigger the loss of water weight; so shedding fluid can make you look and feel lighter, even if you haven’t yet lost an ounce of body fat.
- Unwanted side effects – Most detox concoctions contain additional herbs, designed to curb appetite and boost weight loss in other ways. One common example is plants with a natural laxative effect, such as senna.
- Sleep interference – Whilst the caffeine content may supress appetite, it is not the best assistant when trying to sleep at night. Too little shuteye can slow down your metabolism, meaning that weight loss becomes slower and more difficult.
- Lack of research – Whilst there may be articles and reviews that suggest scientific research, there is actually a severe lack of investigation. This means that we are left with unanswered questions about how and if they work and their effects (good and bad).
