Take a break
Nobody expects you to keep up a fitness routine 365 days, year after year. Many professional athletes even schedule in a week long break every 8-12 weeks to allow their body time to recover, rejuvenate and maintain their motivation. In fact it actually takes more than a week for your body to begin to lose fitness, so do not panic!
Here are a few key signs that your body is in need of a break…
- Fatigue and physical exhaustion
- Soreness that just will not go away
- Dreading the thought of your workout, feeling unmotivated or bored
- A dip in the quality of your performance or a lack of progression
Do any of these ring true? Then take a break! In factual terms, it takes about two months of inactivity for your body to lose what you have worked hard to gain and it is your aerobic fitness that you begin to lose first. Your muscle strength and endurance retain memory for weeks or even months! So sit back, relax and enjoy a well deserved holiday, taking the time to do what you want to do!
