Everything you need to know about Flying at Goodwood
Everything you need to know about Flying at Goodwood
I have been given a Flight Experience - what do I do now?
Congratulations! We look forward to welcoming you to Goodwood. The next step is to ring the Flying School Desk to book your flight. Please ring 01243 755066 to book.
What do I need to bring with me?
Please remember to bring your vouchers or letter with you. We'd also strongly recommend that you bring a camera to record the occasion!
Will I need special clothing?
You don't need to wear any special clothing but comfort is definitely the order of the day. We do recommend that trousers and flat shoes are worn. If you are flying in the Piper Super Cub we do ask everyone to wear shoes that will enable you to get a good ‘feel’ of the rudder pedals, therefore no heavy boots, we prefer trainers or deck shoes.
Is there parking at Goodwood Aerodrome?
There is plenty of free parking at Goodwood Aerodrome but it can get very busy so you might not be able to park right next to the Flying School.
Can I get something to eat when I am at Goodwood?
There are a selection of places to eat at Goodwood - and depending on the experience you are taking, some have a delicious lunch included. There is a cafe, currently based in the Old Control Tower at the Motor Circuit, which is a short walk from the Aerodrome. There is also the Bar & Grill, which is part of the Goodwood Hotel, which serves delicious lunches or the Farner Butcher Chef, again part of the hotel, which is open for dinner and also for Sunday lunches. Find out more.
Can my family and friends come and watch?
You are very welcome to bring family and friends with you - but we ask that children are supervised at all times. In some of the experiences in our modern Cessnas a guest is included in the fight. However, as the Piper Super Cub and Harvard are two seater aircraft there is only room for you and your Flight Instructor.
Please take note of the instructions from your Flight Instructor and the Goodwood Flying School team as your safety is of paramount importance to us.
Are the Goodwood aircraft well maintained?
We pride ourselves on ensuring that the highest possible standards are met. Our fleet of aircraft are are maintained by our own in-house CAA/EASA approved Aircraft Engineering & Maintenance department, who are based at Goodwood Aerodrome.
Are there age restrictions?
In order to qualify for a LAPL or PPL you need to be over the age of seventeen, although you can take lessons and log them from fourteen. You can solo fly on your 16th Birthday!
Are there medical restrictions to flying?
There are medical requirements which are not excessively stringent. Glasses can be worn and do not prevent a prospective pilot from flying, although you need to produce a six-month prescription and a spare pair of glasses. Our team can give you advice on your medicals.
Can I meet an instructor to find out more?
Of course! We have a wide range of instructors to suit everyone and they are all readily available to help you through from start to finish.
If I really love flying can I get a qualification through Goodwood?
Yes of course! We have a thriving Flying School with highly trained and very well thought of instructors. Have a look at the Flying School or ring 01243 755066 to find out more.
Can I stay overnight?
