Christmas Roll Up 2022
It was an excellent day with 96 people playing and the majority getting involved with outfits for this year’s theme, Australian Christmas.
The weather was cold and frosty but the sun was still shining. This meant that the day started with heavy frost across the whole golf course, especially the greens. Despite this the course was still playable thanks to the amazing work from the greenkeepers leading up to the day. As the members started to arrive, each received their welcome gift, an insulated steel bottle personalised with their names on it. There were plenty of on course games for our members to get involved in, including beat Father Christmas on the 12th hole, a very difficult hole to hit the green but with the rock-solid ice greens, this made it even tougher for the members and Santa! After all the groups, only five people managed to beat Santa so a huge well done to them.
The Flop Shot Challenge on the 1st tee has become a staple challenge for events at Goodwood and was met with huge excitement by the members. The membership team were set up by the Halfway Hut with an opportunity for members to win some credits back via a tombola, and an additional game of ‘toss the shrimp on the barbie’ for a chance to win some bonus stableford points on the day.
Everyone was able to enjoy refreshments out on course which included mulled wine, mince pies, sausage rolls, cookies and some opting for something stronger, putting their personalised bottles to good use! Live music provided on the Putting Green with food and drinks after brought joyful end to a great day.
In the tough icy conditions, the eventual winner of the event was Michael Waite with an impressive score of 43 points. The rest of the results are below.
