Goodwood Interclub Match

We have all been impacted by Covid-19 in many different ways and the restriction on our private and social lives has never been greater but there is something about the game of golf that brings us all back together. Although I didn’t have the opportunity to play in the match, I could feel the enthusiasm, delight and joy of those involved in returning to a sport that they love. This was also evident in the way each team played, supported each other throughout the matches and enjoyed each other’s company before, during and after the match (socially distanced of course!).

The teams were very evenly matched and most matches ebbed and flowed throughout the afternoon with some excellent play from all sides. I witnessed on many occasions team players advising on putting lines, distances, wind direction (it was very windy) and club selection. This was all done in a very sporting and enthusiastic manner throughout, with of course, the usual banter and storytelling across all teams. In golf there are always winners and losers and even though on the day the Scratch/Ladies Team won 4.5 to 3.5, everyone who took part were winners.

I want to thank James Ashman and Matt Lavington for organising this event (including the weather!) as all involved really enjoyed the experience and the opportunity to return to some form of normal life, even with the Covid restrictions. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all Golf At Goodwood and The Kennels staff for all they have done and are continuing to do to ensure our safe return to golf and some form of “normal” social life at The Kennels and across the Goodwood Estate.

We look forward to more of the same throughout the year and wish all the teams the best of success in their respective matches throughout the year.
