June Round Up
Men’s Scratch Team
The 2021 Golf At Goodwood Scratch Team is a true blend of experience, youth and without doubt fantastic golfing skills. They also have the drive and determination to not only want to represent Goodwood but to WIN for their club and each other.
This was crystal clear when they played their match against Littlehampton Golf Club in the Wellesley Wealth Knockout Trophy on Saturday 5 June at Goodwood. At the midway point we were down in four matches, up in two and level on two to a very strong Littlehampton team. We also had the added excitement of having the Sykes Brothers on opposite sides, although not playing against each other, I’m sure there was a determination to win for their respective teams.
The drive and determination I mentioned before was the catalyst to what was, in no doubt, a fantastic outcome of a “7 – 1 win” for Team Goodwood, with only two matches going to the 18th Hole.
As their new Team Manager I couldn’t be more proud of not only the result but having the opportunity to manage and support a great bunch of people.
There was another very tight match, this time against Mannings Heath but the team battled through and won convincingly in the end (5-3). Some of the more notable points to the match was Stuart's ability to quickly dispatch his opponent by the 11th hole and Phil Birch's excellent win on the 18th hole against one of their best players. I believe the team are now well on our way to building a very strong squad here at Goodwood and we are looking forward to playing Bognor Regis in the 4th round of the knockout. Well done to all invovled.
