Forty-seven players braved strong winds to compete in Goodwood’s ‘Pancake Pairs’ on The Downs course on Sunday 26 February, but it was not just the golf that was affected by conditions.

Pancakes still flip, despite the wind
As an added bonus, each player had the chance to flip a pancake at the halfway hut to gain a ‘Mulligan’ for their round. The gusts of wind ensured that the task was made more difficult, but nonetheless, the competitors (mostly) managed.
The format for the competition was pairs better-ball Stableford and the top five teams were separated by only five shots. Clinching victory was the pairing of Tim Easdown (10) and Matthew Savory (12), who between them shot an exemplary 47 points.
Just one point behind on 46 was Aidan Walls (8) and John McGregor (12), with Adam Shipton (8) and James Webber (16) finishing in third on 45. Tim Clayton (11) and Storry Thrower (8) finished fourth and in fifth place were Darryl Mendoza (5) and Roger Dawkins (11).
The overall standard of golf – and pancake flipping – was excellent throughout the day and the club is now looking ahead to the next significant competition, the Red Nose Day Red Tee Challenge on Saturday 25 March.
