Penge qualifies for 2016 PGA EuroPro Tour
Building on the momentum from his impressive victory at the Sunningdale Foursomes in March, the Team Goodwood star finished number one amateur and clinched a top 30 finish at the PGA Euro ProTour Final Qualifying School earning the highest card possible, a Category 3.
Penge reached the qualification stage comfortably, finishing fourth at Burhill Golf Club at the end of March with rounds of 66 and 76 (-2 overall). In the final at Frilford, Penge went on to score 71, 73 and 72 which saw him finish Even and tied for 22nd place.
The 17-year-old has made a good start to his 2016 campaign, recording a T6 finish in the South American Amateur, a T4 at the Portuguese Amateur, a T14 in the European Nations and not forgetting his famous victory at Sunningdale.
This impressive start to the season, coupled with three victories in 2015, which included the Peter McEvoy Trophy - where he won by equalling the best score in the tournament's history, the Scottish Stroke Play Championship and the Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters, have earnt him a call up to the preliminary 18-man Great Britain and Ireland squad for the St Andrews Trophy match at Prince's Golf Club in July.
The trophy has been played alternately on British/Irish and mainland European courses since 1956. GB&I has won on 25 occasions and the Continent of Europe has taken the title five times, including the 2010 and 2012 matches.
Penge will be aiming for a place in the nine-man team under Captain Craig Watson against the Continent of Europe in the biennial match for the first time. GB&I will be bidding to retain the trophy at the Kent-based club from 20-21 July, following their 14-10 victory at Barseback in 2014 - their first win in the match since 2008.
