Matches
Interclub Matchplay
All teams fielded a strong team with the match played in great spirits. It was a great way to start the year for the teams with the majority staying for a drink afterwards which made for a social feel. The Scratch/Ladies Team won 4.5 to 3.5 on the day, but it was the coming together of all the teams that was the real winner. We look forward to more of the same throughout the year and wish all the teams the best of success in their respective matches.
Birchwood Trophy
Captained by Andy Smith, The Golf At Goodwood team came out victorious against a strong Rustington team with a 3 ½ - 1 ½ win. The next round sees them Away to East Sussex National.
Annodata Trophy
Captained by Damien Simpson, The Golf At Goodwood team won against Worthing Golf Club. The draw for the second round has yet to be completed. The other Men’s Annodata team will play Romsey in June and the ladies will face Bognor Regis away at the end of May.
Cyril Blake
Our Seniors lost in a very closely fought match against Eastbourne Downs in a play-off. It was the first time they had played foursomes in a long time and next year they will come back stronger.
Competitions
The Welcome Back Series was played throughout April and May. The member with the highest two stableford scores over the seven Show & Go competitions was crowned the winner of the series. Tom Ayling came out on top with 80 points. Neal Stuart and Ray Pink finished just a point adrift with 79 points each.
The Race to Puntacana Order of Merit has begun. The first one of the year, The Royal Sussex Cup was won by Andy Smith with an impressive nett 69, closely followed by Nick Trigg with a nett 70. Next up in the Order of Merit schedule was the Goodwood Cup. Mike Clark was victorious with 40 points, a great score in testing conditions. John Flinders was second with 39 points. A reminder that the winner of the 2021 Order of Merit not only enjoys a season of bragging rights but also wins a trip to the world-renowned PGA Tour venue at The Puntacana Resort in the Dominican Republic for themselves and one other between January 2022 and January 2023.
The Ladies Spring Meeting took place on 6th May. 37 ladies took part in the event with an afternoon tea to follow. Lindy Riesco was first, beating an in-form Christiane Lincoln on countback.
We look forward to more exciting events in the coming events.
