Just two weeks after the 2018 Ryder Cup, a number of Golf At Goodwood Members made their way over to Paris to play Le Golf National, the course that played host to the victorious European team.

Ryder Cup Trip

It was a fantastic opportunity to play The Albatross golf course which was graced by the likes of Francesco Molinari, Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy just weeks before. The greens were in the same fantastic condition as they were for the Ryder Cup for Members to enjoy, and with expert tuition from Academy Manager Chris McDonnell and Head PGA Professional Christian Fogden, it was set to be a memorable weekend.
The greens were quick and the fairways were tight, so Members were provided with a variety of masterclasses by Chris and Christian to help improve their game before taking to the course.
In true Ryder Cup style, the Members were split into two teams, Team North, captained by Chris and Team South captained by Christian. After playing fourballs for the first two days, the scores were tied 6-6 going into the final day, the all-important singles matches.
The pressure was on for both teams, especially as there were extra points awarded for any player who completed a full round without losing a golf ball –117 golf balls were lost over the three days! At the end of the round, Team South came out on top in the singles winning 7-5, giving them a famous victory in the Golf At Goodwood Ryder Cup competition.
Chris said; "We had a fantastic trip to Le Golf National with our Golf At Goodwood members. This was the only chance to play the golf course in the same condition as the Ryder Cup and we all thoroughly enjoyed the challenge. The atmosphere amongst the group was electric and playing the Ryder Cup format really allowed everyone to experience what the professionals had two weeks ago. Everyone that came on the trip thoroughly enjoyed the experience and we had lots of fun to go along with it."
Congratulations Team South
