Team Goodwood
As we now find ourselves in the heart of the season, we have a number of events going on both home and away. We had four divisions of ladies enter the SCLGA County Knockouts, three teams of Men’s County Knockouts and a number of other events where our members have represented the club.
SCLGA Knockouts:
After putting up a great fight, the Division 3 and 4 teams have been knocked out of the match play series now but both made some great achievements with the teams winning all their home matches.
Division 1 are through to the Semi-Finals on 28 July. The match will be held at The Dyke GC and played against Worthing Golf Club.
Division 2 have made it through to the Quarter-Finals on 4 July. The match will be held at West Hove GC and played against Cottesmore GC.
Wellesley Trophy:
The Scratch team have made it all the way into the Semi-Finals of the Wellesley Trophy, which is due to be played on Saturday 16 July. As with the Semi-Finals and Finals, the event is set to take place at a neutral venue. The team has been organised by James Plunkett who has done his best to offer up some of Goodwood’s best players to represent us.
Birchwood Plate:
After being knocked out in the first round of the Birchwood Trophy we were entered into the Birchwood Plate. The last match was away against Blackmoor GC on Saturday 25 June where our battle ended. The team was unfortunately knocked out but made it all the way to the Quarter Finals of the Birchwood Plate. The team organiser was Andy Smith and he did a great job of leading the team this year. We look forward to seeing them compete again next year.
SCLGA Trio Trophy Matchplay:
The Trio Trophy team won their first round match away against East Brighton as well as their second round at home against Bognor Regis GC on Saturday 25 June. The next round will be drawn from 30 June where we look forward to seeing who their next opponents will be.
Away Results
Singing Hills Seniors Team Open:
A team of six seniors represented Goodwood in the Singing Hills Senior Team Open in early June. The event was curtailed because of torrential rain, and prizes were awarded on the first 9 holes played. The Goodwood team came second overall by one point, Rick Priest and Mike Walsh had the best score on the Lake 9 (23 points) with Rick and Ian Senior won nearest the pin prizes.
Bognor Regis Golf Club Mixed Open:
At the end of May the Bognor Regis Mixed Open was played. Out of a field of 24 pairs a Goodwood team were the ones to take home the glory. Chris Maultby and Marilyn Humphrey won the day with an amazing score of 42 points.
We look forward to seeing many more Goodwood wins across the rest of the season, but more than anything we hope everyone manages to enjoy their golf.
