Fresh from university, Nicole came to Goodwood to work as a photo librarian aged 21. She has spent the last 4 years managing all things image-related and is increasingly taking her own pictures. Her unfailing enthusiasm for Goodwood means she is happy to get involved in everything from photographing supercars on the motor circuit, to taking pictures of new born lambs down at the farm. She tells us a little bit about her day.

A Day in The Life of Nicole Hains, Goodwood’s Picture Editor and Estate Photographer
My alarm goes off at…
0540 – I like to get outside for some exercise in the mornings.
I’m responsible for …
Managing photographic visuals for all areas of Goodwood; whether that’s taking images myself, managing photographers for events or composing adverts.
I got my job…
I came to Goodwood just a few months after graduating from university and after assisting for other photographers. I started at Goodwood as a photo librarian managing archives, researching and sending out images on the press desk. From there I progressed to managing everything image-related, including getting out and about with a camera myself.
My typical day involves…
I don’t actually have a typical day, which is one of the many great things about my job. One day I will be photographing cattle on the farm and coming home smelling rather ripe (!). The next I could be photographing Christmas products in the height of summer, or perhaps editing the best food pictures for use in a national newspaper.
My most memorable work moment…
It’s hard to choose but I think photographing Tom Cruise while he was sat in a spitfire and I stood on the wing was definitely a highlight. I have been lucky enough to have been driven up the Hillclimb in some amazing supercars and have even experienced donuts with Nicolas Minassian in a McLaren 650S Spider.
The worst part of my job…
I don’t have a worst part as such but adding metadata to images can get a little time-consuming.
The best part of my job…
Diversity – no two days are the same.
After work…
I am Instagram-obsessed and am constantly posting my favourite pics. I also recharge my camera kit, then I may go to a yoga class or spend some time with friends.
The best thing about working at Goodwood…
Have you seen the Estate?! I am lucky enough to have an office in Goodwood House and looking out to the grounds from the office is one of the most breath-taking views – something you have to remind yourself not to take for granted. I also work with the most passionate and lovely people.
