There But Not There
As the Clubhouse for all Goodwood members, The Kennels were honoured to recently host trustee of the 2018 Armistice Project, There But Not There, Michael Tu and Dr John Godfrey to explain how this nationwide initiative aims to place Perspex ‘Tommies’ of our fallen soldiers in areas where their absence was keenly felt.
Given that widespread resonance, ‘Tommies’ have been placed up and down the country, into places of worship, schools, workplaces to help us remember them and help heal those suffering from the hidden wounds of war.
During the evening, which hosted 30 Members exclusively, we learned how the Great War impacted our local villages and towns in West Sussex, and how the There But Not There initiative continues to support these historic actions with their three main values.
"Commemorate those who died in the First World War through installations of silhouettes wherever there is a Roll of Honour."
"To Educate all generations, particularly today’s younger generation, born nearly 100 years after the outbreak of WW1, to understand what led to the deaths of 888,246 British and Commonwealth service personnel."
"Heal today’s veterans who are suffering from the mental and physical wounds of their service by raising substantial funds through sales of our Tommies."
Each of our Members in attendance was given a miniature Perspex Tommie to take away and remember with. All funds raised from the salse of these Tommies will contribute directly to the work carried out by the beneficiary charities of There But Not There.
