Goodwood Education
From pre-school to post-graduates, Goodwood provides educations visits for groups of all ages
Goodwood offers schools and colleges a wide range of workshops and visits to facilitate Learning Outside the Classroom, using the rich variety of sites and businesses found on the Estate. This learning programme is typically delivered through the Goodwood Education Trust (formerly West Sussex Countryside Studies Trust), a charity established by the Duke of Richmond in 1976.
Educational Group Visits
Educational Visits
The Education Officer can tailor activities to suit specific needs and learning objectives. Teachers are invited to make a pre-visit, so the activities can be discussed and risk assessments undertaken. All visits will be coordinated and usually lead by the Education Officer, assisted by Education Guides and Estate staff as appropriate.
Most group visits are charged per child, starting at £3 for a half day and with no charge for accompanying adults. Some visits to Home Farm may be available free of charge as part of the farm’s Higher Level Stewardship Access agreement.

Estate Tours
Goodwood is tremendously diverse, comprising a range of specialist businesses. Through our Estate Tours you can learn about the Estate and its role in the local area or focus on specific subjects such as Geography, Hospitality or Business studies.
Groups can arrange to visit the Motor Circuit, Aerodrome, Hotel, Racecourse, Golf Club and The Kennels. Subject to our events calendar, students can see ‘behind the scenes’ and meet the specialists helping to run the Estate. Most visits start with a short tour of the House, to learn about its history and the role of the Richmond family in the evolution of the Estate.
Safe and Fun
Nature Trails
Seeley Copse is 7.5 hectares of ancient woodland on Goodwood Home Farm, that for the past 30 years, has been used exclusively for outdoor educational activities. Two hundred years ago chalk was dug from part of it to make mortar for the House and Estate walls, resulting in a curious and varied topography of holes and hills that are great fun to explore. In the last century, parts of it had been coppiced and a variety of exotic tree species had been planted, creating a delightful environment in which to learn.

There are toilets and handwashing facilities at various outdoor and indoor sites, including composting toilets at Seeley Copse, with cold running water for hand washing. Wheelchair access is possible at Goodwood House, the Racecourse, Motor Circuit and Airfield, and also around part of the farm and woodland. Indoor space for lunch is available at the House and can be arranged at the Motor Circuit and the Racecourse. There is a picnic area in Seeley Copse which is also used by visitors to Home Farm. A nature hut provides some shelter for a small group if the weather is bad. There is ample parking for coaches or cars at all the sites.
