I have always been a car enthusiast. But my fascination really turned into a career option when I heard the success stories of Elon Musk, and Enzo Ferrari, two of the biggest names in the industry today. One being renowned for building the most advanced supercars in the world, the other by contrast, for creating the world’s finest electric vehicles.

Mystery Monday: Josh Cartu – Gumball in a Ferrari is the best thing in the world

Since I became aware of these people, I’ve always found a connection with them. These two men did what they loved and were not driven by other forces, such as money. Their stories inspired me, and I decided to follow my heart, and today I am a gentleman race-car driver, world rally participant, and an entrepreneur.
2016 has been a great year! Winning Best Team at Gumball 3000 with Team Wolfpack was even more special than my debut because there was added pressure due to the team’s excellent reputation.
The excitement doesn’t stop there, though; I’m taking part in the Ferrari Cavalcade in Kyoto and Art Basel Miami shortly after that. I’ll also take part in the Ferrari World Finals (Finale Mondiale) at Daytona Beach where I’ll drive in a parade of over 1,000 Ferraris in an attempt to break the previous record. Being president of a Ferrari Club has allowed me to get invites to exclusive events such as Cavalcade, where only 80-100 Ferrari drivers are invited, so it’s really special.
My obsession with Ferrari began as a child. My father owned a small car dealership in Fonthill back in Canada and my job was to wash the cars there and take the snow off them in winter. I grew up seeing Ferraris and always admired their beauty. What was more important to me though was how they drove… something I was unable to experience until much later in life. While I own several other cars as well, Ferrari has always been my personal favorite due to their powerful naturally aspirated V12 engines, that crazy noise, handling, and most importantly, for the way they make me feel. No other car gives me the same visceral connection to the road and transmits the emotions of driving through the seat and the wheel better than a Ferrari.
They’ve just released their newest and best car yet: The LaFerrari Aperta. You can't really buy an Aperta unless Ferrari really believes you are as passionate about their cars as they are. They’re making just over two hundred of these, so it’s one of the rarest and certainly right now, the most desirable car in the world. I am also proud to say that I was the third person in the world to receive this car, out of the five produced that allow customization options that are not available anymore. So mine is a little special, in Bianco Italia (white), with black leather interior and yellow stitching and my name engraved on the steering wheel. Very special!
