GTI, GTE, RS, XR… every combination of fast letters is present at Goodwood today for our hot hatch themed Breakfast Club. And, given that the hot hatch genre now spans five decades, there is something for everyone. How about a very rare Fiat Strada Abarth, rally-spec Peugeot 306 or the latest Renaultsport offerings?
The biggest talking point of all? That may have been a close run thing between a Daewoo Nexia fitted with two Vauxhall engines, or a Mk3 Ford Fiesta that has a claimed top speed of 183mph.
The meeting peaked at about 700 hot hatches in the October sunshine this morning, with an estimated 4000 visitors filing through the gates. No wonder the smell of bacon lingered in the cool air for so long.
