With just days to go until our fourth Breakfast Club of the year, GRR is getting a bit excited about the prospect of the paddock and circuit being filled with various pocket-rockets spanning five decades.
Yep, we didn’t believe it at first but the phenomenon of the hot hatch goes all the way back to 1971 and the Autobianchi A112 Abarth (unless of course you know better?) Volkswagen famously took the concept mainstream in 1975 and since then it’s been nearly 40 years of GTis, GTEs, GT Turbos, Type-Rs and a whole bunch of monikers added to the name of popular hatchbacks which designate them as ‘the hot one.’
What’s winding the anticipation up several notches for us is that this will be the first Hot Hatch Sunday ever at Goodwood. So far this year each Breakfast Club has enjoyed an incredible turn-out and we can’t wait to see modern favourites like the Megane R26R, Seat Leon Cupra R and Ford Focus ST file through the gates along with Mk2 Golfs, Peugeot 205 GTis and early Civic Type-Rs, to name just a few. In fact, we’re hoping that there will be at least one example of every popular hot hatch on display.
Naturally, you want to be part of this historic event and we’d love to see you here. As with all our Breakfast Clubs entry is free of charge, but if you wish to display your pride and joy you will need to pre-register which you can do HERE. If you’d like us to consider issuing you with a pass which will get your car parked on the grid, it will help your cause if you can attach an image.
