The history of the supercar is dominated by produce from southern Europe. But, we should never forget that some pretty exceptional machines have been made right here in Britain.
OK, so a lot of arguing could ensue here about what the definition of a supercar, but we’ve decided to be broad, rather than just sticking to “mid-engined beauty”.
Which brings us first to the rather delightful Jaguar XK120, perhaps not really a supercar per se, but definitely the supercar of its day. A pair of these stunning cars from the 1950s looked resplendent in the Goodwood paddocks through the day.
Of course, we could not go through the day without mentioning Aston Martin or TVR, of which the paddocks and circuit were filled with plenty. From Blackpool, a series of Chimeras and Griffiths put on a show – it’s impossible to not make an entrance in a TVR, even if you’re doing the mandated 5mph. Gayden’s finest included the Vanquish, DB11 V12 and the much-desired Vantage V12 – a car soon to be resurrected.
Finally, we were blessed with a few Ultimas, those bastions of British kitcar society that make machines with around 1,000PS.
It was a lovely display of Blighty’s best. But which is your favourites?
