Star of Le Mans, Goodwood favourite, former F1 racing and test driver, and current joint-leader of the World Endurance Championship Anthony Davidson will be in attendance with the dominant Toyota TS040 at the Festival of Speed at the end of the month.
As-yet-unbeaten this season, it would appear that the combination of Davidson and the TS040 is hardest to defeat in the WEC, and at FoS you’ll be able to see him and the mighty Toyota up close. By then we’ll know if he’s managed to help give the Japanese giant its first ever victory at Le Mans, and if he does then there may just be a bit of celebration!
At the start of the season it wasn’t clear which of the Toyota TS040 Hybrid, Porsche 919 Hybrid, or Audi R18 e-tron Quattro would step forward as the early-doors candidate for the title. Having won convincingly at Silverstone and Spa in the opening two rounds, hopes must be high of Toyota continuing this form to Le Mans.
With Audi having won an astonishing 12 of the last 14 events, and Porsche having long-since established themselves as Le Mans heavyweights, the talk should all be about which of the German giants will prevail. However, such is the strength of the Toyota so far this year that there’s a good chance of Anthony Davidson turning up at FoS as a first-time winner!
