OK, Mondays at the office aren’t always like this. But sometimes the weekend can’t pass quickly enough…
You’re looking at (as if you didn’t know) the one-and-only Baby Bertha, the legendary former steed of legendary racing hero Gerry Marshall, and a car which is now in the long-term ownership of racing farmer and thoroughly good bloke Joe Ward. You’re also looking at Vauxhall’s latest iteration of the VXR8 – namely the supercharged GTS version that’s due to make an appearance in the FoS ‘First Glance’ category on the hillclimb in a couple of weeks. Baby Bertha is no stranger to FoS herself, of course, but we think today is her first ever foray onto the Goodwood circuit – and doesn’t she sound good…

As race car vs. road car comparisons go, you’d struggle to find a more appropriate one – the Vauxhall Firenza-based Baby Bertha was commissioned in the mid-70s to race with 500+ hp Aussie Repco V8 power (albeit there’s now a Chevy hunkered down-low between the sub-frame tubes), while the VXR8 is pure Aussie muscle-car behind those Vauxhall badges.
With all that in mind, it’s no surprise that Baby Bertha has been photographed next to the VXR8 before.
Which is why we are busy making a little video instead… so make sure you stay tuned to Goodwood Road & Racing for that, and lots more good stuff!
