Video: Rat trap packs 3000bhp on the hill. It gets smokey

Imagine packing 3000bhp on the Goodwood hill. And, no, that’s not a typo – we really did mean to put three zeros after the number three. For Ron Hope, that’s the reality of piloting the legendary Rat Trap up the hill. In his interview with Goodwood Road & Racing‘s Andy Craig, he says he usually closes his eyes when threading the car up the narrow, bumpy tarmac. We wouldn’t blame him for a minute, but we don’t believe him…

Given that the car weighs just 725kg, it’s easily capable converting its rear tyres to smoke – although, as you’ll see in the video, it does actually hook up and find decent grip on the rubber-coated section of track in front of the House.
