This is it folks; the big one. With Saturday’s Supercar Shootout out of the way, on Sunday at FoS it was time to wheel out the competition cars to see who’d be the king of the hill for 2014. Here we have the highlights.
Of course, by now you all should know that the hot favourite Sebastien Loeb came out on top in his formidable, be-winged Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak. However, there were a number of candidates pushing him hard in terms of outright entertainment. Max Papis was one in his Richard Childress Chevrolet Impala NASCAR, and he was ably abetted by Michael Bartels in the stunning Maserati MC12 Goodwood Cent (built and painted especially for the event), Revival hero Kenny Brack in the McLaren F1 GTR ‘Long Tail’, and young hotshoe Jann Mardenborough in a Nissan GTR.
Ultimately Loeb wasn’t able to challenge the long-standing record set by Nick Heidfeld in 1998, due in part to the gearing in the outrageous Pug being too short for the Hillclimb course. Looking at his style up the hill though, we wouldn’t bet against him getting close next year if the chaps from Velizy get the 208 set up suitably. Would you?
