Double MotoGP champion Casey Stoner will ride at the Festival of Speed for the first time in nine years as part of a superstar lineup of bike legends.
The 29-year-old Aussie will join a host of other World Champions at Goodwood including John Surtees, Giacomo Agostini, Kenny Roberts, Freddie Spencer and Valentino Rossi.
Stoner, who clinched titles in 2007 and 2011 during seven years racing at the top level, will ride a prototype Honda MotoGP bike during the Festival.
The last time he appeared at FoS Stoner rode his LCR Honda RC211V in 2006 during his first season in grand prix racing’s top flight.
In a move that embodies the Festival’s 2015 theme of ‘Flat out and Fearless’ Stoner’s family gave up everything to move to England when he was just 14 so he could pursue his racing dream.
The sight of Stoner and Rossi dicing on the edge of adhesion at Laguna Seca’s Corkscrew in 2008 has become the stuff of legend, while time after time the Australian has achieved results that his team-mates have failed to match.
In total Stoner has scored 38 premier class grand prix victories, 39 pole positions and 29 fastest laps, and will aim to add a Suzuka Eight-Hour victory to his long list of achievements when he comes out of retirement in July to race in Japan.
Speaking after the announcement Lord March said: ‘Motorbikes have always played a key part in the Festival of Speed and this year’s theme: ‘Flat-Out and Fearless: Racing on the Edge’ really sums up the spirit of two-wheeled racers all over the world. To have Casey Stoner coming to Goodwood this summer is tremendously exciting and adds to a sensational line-up of legendary racers already confirmed for the event.’
