‘The perfect design’ is how ‘the father of pop art’ Richard Hamilton described this Porsche 911, which Bonhams will auction at the Festival of Speed.
Bought fresh from the factory by Hamilton, he owned the 2.4-litre coupe for the next three-decades before passing it on to his son, who kept hold of it until 2013.
Hamilton, who acted as a judge at the Festival of Speed’s Cartier Style et Luxe concours d’elegance in 2007, designed the cover for the Beatles’ ‘White Album’ and was introduced to luxury cars from an early age when his father worked in a London car showroom.
According to Bonhams the ‘black on black’ 911 is believed to be one of the finest right-hand drive examples still in existence and carries the numberplate RGO 6L.
After undergoing a two-year sympathetic restoration by Clarke and Carter, one of Europe’s leading restoration specialists, it will appear at Goodwood with an estimate of between £250,000-300,000.
