I love opening my brief from Goodwood the day before it all kicks off and reading the list of who and what will be at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. I knew that the Doctor was attending and had my fingers crossed he would be on my list of people to photograph. He was! I got to shoot him throughout the day on Sunday and so have kicked off my selection of images with my favourite shots of Vale. I like to tell stories with my images and hopefully these shots give you a perspective on what was a great weekend.
One thing that everyone loves at Goodwood is the accessibility of the drivers, including the current crop of F1 stars – Nico Rosberg, Jenson Button, Felipe Massa, Kimi Räikkönen, and that’s just to name the drivers I managed to photograph! It’s so good to see them with the fans. Jenson Button in particular was on another planet, beaming from ear-to-ear with his lovely wife Jessica Michibata. I also came across the lovely Jodi Kidd, chatting to someone on the phone and had to stop and ask for a picture.
Car wise, there were two highlights for me, and both are classics. Firstly the Darracq engine with four wheels and two crazy guys driving it up the hill – you can see the steely determination in their eyes! But the car that really stole the show for me was the truly spectacular Fiat S76 ‘Beast of Turin’. My shot of it was the last I took at the whole festival, and I think it perfectly captures the car’s awesomeness. Just look at that heat haze!
