Video: FoS On Board ‑ Rod Millen Hits 130mph in Hillclimb Shootout

Rod Millen is no stranger to ascending hills, in fact the former WRC driver is probably best known for his incredible Pikes Peak runs, including his 1994 attempt in a Toyota Celica, which shattered the previous record by 40-seconds.

In 2015 Rod brought that very Celica to the Festival of Speed, not for the first time, to take on our own 1.16-mile ribbon of tarmac through West Sussex in the Sunday timed shootout.

It may be 21-years-old but the Celica’s 850bhp powered it to the third best time up the hill, only being edged out by two more modern cars.

It’s not the first time Rod has graced FoS with his brilliant, and mighty-looking, machine, and we definitely hope it’s not the last. Even at 64-years-old we at GRR reckon the former surveyor must still have a victorious run in him.
