One of many celebrated milestones coming to the Goodwood Festival of Speed is the 40th anniversary of the Golf GTI, and it’s being celebrated in style. The first Mk1 GTI from 1976 will be joining Volkswagen’s mid life crisis car for the Golf that is the bewinged, two-seater, Nürburgring Nordschleife record-breaking GTI Mk7 Clubsport S. Both will be taking to the iconic Goodwood hillclimb with Le Mans winner Hans-Joachim Stuck at the helm, where he will be contrasting what forty years of GTI evolution feels like.

On static display will be a Mk3 GTI, allowing fans to see and contrast a major GTI stepping stone with both its forbearer and a distant successor, as well as the resplendent Golf GTE Sport Concept showing where GTI may be going. It looks to be a great celebration of one of the great motoring icons major lifetime milestones, and you can catch them throughout the Festival of Speed.
