Mazda’s MX-5 two-seater is one of the great recreational motoring success stories, with units sold just tipping over a million since the NA’s introduction in 1989, and the next limited run version, the Icon, is making its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Mazda's Icon ‑ special edition MX‑5 for FoS debut
&width=89&fastscale=false)
The Icon Edition version of the MX-5 looks to add some aesthetic flavour as well as greater value. Joining the Meteor Grey Mica, Crystal White Pearlescent hues and the 16-inch gunmetal wheels are a smattering of Soul Red exterior flourishes, as well as standard fitment of rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers and automatic headlights. At just £800 over the SE-L nav on which it’s based, the Icon looks to be a serious value proposition.
Examples of the 600 car run will be joining the recently unveiled tin-top MX-5 RF, the Speedster and Spyder concepts (previously unseen on this side of the Atlantic) as well as the standard car on the Mazda stand at FoS. We suspect the odds are on those order books filling quickly!
