I decided to spend sometime over the weekend in the top collecting area, it's a little bit of a walk but definitely worth the effort! This is the go to place to capture the drivers in a relaxed atmosphere, meeting fans and generally getting some time out to chat to each other. There is also the chance to see some spectacular “hooning” as well as soaking up the noise and atmosphere. There really is nowhere else on earth where you can experience such a wide variety of cars both modern and classic.
One of the highlights for me as a photographer was when legendary F1 designer Adrian Newey decided to have a look at the ex-Rosberg Williams FW08C. New Williams F1 Heritage driver and all-round F1 geek Karun Chandhok obliged and with interested parties Gasly, Vandoorne, Palmer and Pic watching on as Karun explained the ins and outs of the FW08C. Newey had such a massive smile on his face. He has had a long and successful career in F1 and yet he was still like a small child at Christmas around the machinery on show at FOS – which is what it is all about.
If you ever get the chance to go to FOS grab it with both hands, you will then be hooked for years to come!
