You can be forgiven for casting your eye over a Caterham and in spite of the lashings of carbon, bright colours and stickers that denote it as a 620R, thinking it a little quaint. The googly eyes and the 60-odd-year-old shape look slightly antiquated next to the 22nd-century lines of something like a BAC Mono.

Of course, for many, such preconceptions won’t have had time to precipitate. If you still have doubts, an on board of a 620R from FOS 2016 getting slippy and intimate with the rev limiter should convince you it’s a serious bit of kit.
