Gallery: Action from the Timed Shootout

The anticipation for the Timed Shootout at the Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard was incalculable, as Max Chilton and McMurtry psyched themselves up to A) break their own record of fastest overall time up the Hill and B) potentially topple the Sunday Shootout record that’s stood for 23 years. Needless to say, this had the makings of a moment in history.

But first a number of other contestants had their run of all-out speed up the Hill, from a former winner in the Group C Jaguar XJR-12D and Justin Law, to the rogue weapon Subaru Gymkhana GL Wagon and its wielder Travis Pastrana. F1 World Champion Jenson Button was out driving a First Corner FC1x Rallycross car, while former Hill champion and Le Mans winner Romain Dumas attempted to tame the absolutely crazy Ford SuperVan.

Meanwhile, Nasser Al-Attiya set what has to be one of the slowest times ever, given he stopped three times to do donuts for the crowd, before heading out onto the rally stage at the top of the Hill. The real wait however was for Max Chilton and his electric McMurtry, sucking itself to the Hill for the equivalent of 2,000kg of downforce. We’re surprised the photographers could keep up, his run was like a cartoon.
