It wasn’t long after Bonhams’ hugely successful FoS sale that we started wondering what they’d bring along to the Revival. Well we’ve just had a quick spin around the rather grand pavilion erected by Bonhams ‘over-the-road’ to house this weekend’s sale, so now we can show you some of the highlights.
Walking into the auction room we are met immediately with the glorious sight of the Abarth collection. ‘The 131 might surprise us on the day’ says Bonhams’ Group Director James Knight. ‘There has been a terrific response to this car and enthusiasts have been spending hours looking it over. Another Abarth which has seen great interest is the Abarth Simca. In its day it was very competitive; a Porsche 904 beater.’
At the front of the floor are the Ferraris. An F40 is surrounded by two 250s, three 330s, and three 365s in an impressive display.
Arguably the most remarkable lot as far as Bonhams is concerned, is the Lagonda LG45R with Fox and Nicholl coachwork. James again: ‘I’d been in this game just two years in 1986 when I met the car’s then-owner in Ireland. We sold the car in 1987 to a man who kept it for many years. It was sold after his passing to a new owner from New York who ran it in the Mille Miglia, then we sold it again on his behalf at Quail six years ago and here it is on sale with us again today! It’s great that people have such confidence in us …’
We’ll be back again at Bonhams tomorrow to see the sale itself. We can’t wait, but in the meantime enjoy the gallery above and remember; there’s still time to get down to Goodwood and put a bid in!
