James Cottingham‘s beautiful Ferrari 500 TRC from 1957 would take the spoils after a hard-fought battle for the Lavant Cup. Despite being exclusively for drum-braked sports prototypes from the prancing horse, and therefore featuring some of the most precious cars at this year’s event, the race was not short on incident.
Cottingham himself was handed a 10-second penalty after jumping the start and was involved in more controversy when his bright yellow machine was involved in an incident that sent the Ferrari 750 Monza of Carlos Monteverde spinning onto the outfield. Monteverde would eventually recover to finish second, ahead of Max Girado’s Ferrari 500 TRC, a full 26 seconds behind the winner.
