Revival 2015 Race Gallery – Fordwater Trophy

The traction advantage of a rear-engined car was aptly displayed at the start of the Fordwater Trophy when Howard Donald’s Porsche 356, driven by Chris Harris, leapt ahead of the JD Classics prepared Jaguar XK120 of John Young. But the Porsche’s glory didn’t last, and the greater power and longer legs of the pole-sitting Jaguar soon had it back in the lead and pulling out a comfortable gap.

By the time the race came to an end, Young was 15 seconds clear of second-place Harris, himself five seconds ahead of the Frazer Nash Mille Miglia of Philip Champion. The closer racing, then, could be found further down the grid for production sports and GT cars built between 1948 and 1954.
