The RAC TT celebration race my not be the four hour endurance challenge it once was, but it has become one of the showpiece races of the Goodwood Revival, and in 2015 contains yet another stunning grid, featuring F1 stars like Giedo van der Garde and Emanuele Pirro, BTCC legends Matt Neal and Robb Gravett, and ‘Mr Le Mans’ himself, Tom Kristensen.
This video, shared by British Pathe, takes us back to the very first TT to be held at Goodwood in 1958. Who else could win the race than Stirling Moss, a man whose career is intrinsically linked with our famous circuit?
He was partnered with Tony Brooks, another name written into the history of Goodwood, and the pair led a dominant 1-2-3 for Aston Martin, crossing the line in flying formation to record near identical race times. Interestingly, Brooks is listed as having practiced in all three DBR1s before slotting into the seat of the #7 car alongside Moss for the race.
This stunning footage, complete with obligatory period commentary, features Tojero Jaguars, the Jaguar D-Type and the unfortunate Lister Jaguar of Ross Jensen, which left the race with suspension failure after 51 laps.
