The Glover Trophy is a glorious celebration of the last era of F1 before the 3-litre machines and their furious rippling power figures forced a step-change in tyre, chassis and aerodynamic technologies. These 1.5-litre machines are elegant yet purposeful. Sleek yet aggressive, and with that undeniable aura of expense that could only be cultivated in the ultimate single-seater discipline.

It’s not like the smaller engines were boring, though. The trumpet-clad screamers sitting amidship were truly sonorous. But just look at these things. Keeping in mind what would follow – an ever fussier pursuit of aerodynamic supremacy. These things are so pretty, looking spectacularly photogenic in the gallery above.
