Gallery: The Richmond and Gordon Trophies at SpeedWeek

There are many differing points of view on what is the best era of Formula 1 – turbos, the return of power, the V10 period. But all can agree that perhaps the most important was the one that straddled the late 1950s and early ‘60s when the cars progressed from having their engines mounted in front of the driver to behind.

It was a fascinating few years as the two different approaches literally battled it out on track for supremacy. That is exactly what we see recreated in the Richmond and Gordon Trophies at Goodwood SpeedWeek presented by Mastercard. So the beautiful Maserati 250F and Ferrari 246 Dino – Enzo was firm in his belief that ‘the horse pulls the cart’ – take on the young upstarts from Cooper and Lotus. The winner is not always as expected in this close fought race…
