Unleash the hounds! The 73rd Members’ Meeting at Goodwood is underway

Glorious sunshine bathed the Motor Circuit this morning, as the 73rd Members’ Meeting kicked-off with what looks like becoming the latest Goodwood ‘tradition’ – the Running of The Hounds.

Resplendent in full livery, the hounds, horses and riders of the Settrington Hunt rode out to officially open the circuit. The arrival of the hounds is an event that helps to celebrate the history of the Goodwood Estate, which has been the home of the Dukes of Richmond and Lennox for over 300 years. The 1st Duke of Richmond was the natural son of King Charles II and his French mistress, Louise de Keroualle. He originally bought Goodwood as a hunting lodge and subsequent Dukes enlarged the existing Jacobean house to create the magnificent building that we see today.

The Motor Circuit came a little later, of course…
