The evocative sound and smell of two-stroke racing engines will permeate the 75th Members’ Meeting in 2017 with the announcement that the Hailwood Trophy motorcycle race will once again be on the bill for the March 18-19 event.

Two‑Stroke Tearaways set for 75MM Hailwood Trophy rematch
Two-wheeled racing has been a popular part of the Revival Meeting retrospective since it began in 1998, thanks to the Lennox Cup and Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy races for 1950s and 1960s bikes, and that enthusiasm is now shared by Members’ Meeting visitors thanks to a gripping Hailwood Trophy in 2016.
A field of almost 30 two-stroke 250cc and 350cc machines from the late 1970s and early ’80s was painstakingly prepared for the first event, named in honour of one of Britain’s greatest riders – the late, great multiple World Champion Mike Hailwood.

The race was won by former British Superbike Champion Ian Simpson, the Scot and his Yamaha TZ350E seeing off Richard Parker and Dean Stimpson, on Spondon and Harris Yamaha TZGs respectively, after poleman and former Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy winner Michael Russell faded to fourth.
Goodwood might have held just one motorcycle meeting in period, but this time round it seems the bikes and their leather-clad luminaries are a permanent fixture. With bike builders, riders and spectators giving it the thumbs up first time round, we can expect more small-capacity, high-revving, smoke-belching fun and games in March.
