Grand Prix racer-turned IndyCar star Max Chilton will demonstrate a Chevrolet NASCAR stock car at this weekend’s 74th Members’ Meeting.
The 24-year-old Brit, who raced in 35 Grands Prix for the Manor team in 2013 and 2014, will take to the circuit on Sunday for some demonstration laps in the massive V8 machine used by Daytona 500 winner Jamie McMurray.
The McDonald’s-liveried Chevrolet was last seen at the 2015 Festival of Speed, when 1990s NASCAR racer Ed Berrier demonstrated its colossal power – and tyre-shredding ability – on the hill.
Chilton, who last year raced for the ill-fated Nissan LMP1 squad in the Le Mans 24 Hours, has already made his debut for Chip Ganassi Racing in the IndyCar Series, finishing 17th in the Chevrolet-powered Dallara in last weekend’s season-opening St Petersburg race. He makes his return to the Goodwood Motor Circuit this weekend after demonstrating a 1,000bhp Nissan Group C car at last year’s 73rd Members’ Meeting.
‘I’m really looking forward to giving it some stick,’ said Chilton. ‘I took a Kyle Busch Toyota Camry up the hill at the Festival of Speed last year and did some donuts at the top, which was cool. At the circuit there’ll be more room for some serious showboating.’
