Andrew Jordan redefined the hot lap in the midst of the Alan Mann Trophy race for Ford GT40s. A failed wheelbearing saw his pace drop off, and he was forced to pit. Goodwood’s bias towards right-hand corners had put some much pressure on the offside rear that it burst into flames when he finally came to a rest in the paddock. His pitcrew were unfazed, tackling the flames with the minimum of fuss and even finding time to adjust the GoPro camera amid the drama.
The Jordan car was one of many retirees from the Alan Mann Trophy, at least three of which were in with a genuine chance of outright victory. Of the 27 starters, only fifteen crossed the finishing line by the time the chequered flag came out after the sun set.
