In case we hadn’t made you sufficiently aware, a delicious selection of old fast Fords are taking to the track this weekend at the 74th Members’ Meeting. The vast majority of them are indeed arguably the most iconic fast Fords of all time – the GT40 – but you’ll also find some stunning Capris and Escorts amongst the paddocks.
Strutting their stuff in the Alan Mann Trophy around 9:40 today, the GT40 can be argued to be most famous for a number of reasons. Firstly, that pedigree: a 1-2-3 finish at Le Mans in 1966. The timeless lines: a style that really has endured with the 2005 Ford GT road car and 2016s GT and GTLM cars staying true to the originals. Lastly, and one that is easy to forget until you’re up close and personal with a GT40 primed for a fight: that noise. The 7-litre naturally aspirated V8 emits a guttural howl that permeates your gut.
Take a look at this sneak sample of the GT40s at rest, snorting and chugging away. Catch them at full chat on the 74MM live stream shortly.
