In successful international careers spanning many decades, they’ve tamed much more powerful and wayward machines, so for 74th Members’ Meeting House Captains Jochen Mass, Emanuele Pirro and Anthony Reid a quick spin around the Auto Solo course on the infield at the Motor Circuit shouldn’t pose too many problems, should it?
The racing legends are on hand to try out the Pocket Classics – a trio of miniature AC Cobras – on a technical and, in places, slippery course that will be open to visitors to have a go during the weekend.
Grand Prix and Le Mans winner Jochen Mass, who captains Darnley House, goes first, the German ace completing the course without any drama.
Five-time Le Mans winner Emanuele Pirro, Torbolton Captain for a third straight year, goes next, the umber-enthusiastic Italian also getting to the end with no bother.
And finally, Methuen Captain Anthony Reid, a multiple British Touring Car Championship race winner and Le Mans podium finisher, gives it a go. A half-spin, captured expertly by his onboard camera, looks to have spoiled his run, although somehow he manages to eclipse the time set by both Pirro and Mass. Well, the Scot is a competitive chap, and is bidding for a third straight victory for Methuen this weekend, so he’s trying hard. Unless he bribed the timekeeper…
You can try your hand at the Auto Solo in one of the Pocket Classics during the weekend, and help your House earn valuable points. Enjoy!
